Planting Love Everywhere


“Let your heart crumble into an infinite amount of tiny, precious seeds. Then plant love everywhere you go.“

I discovered this quote recently and was struck by its message. I don’t know anything about Anita Krizzan, but she certainly conveys Jesus’ message in a very striking way.  

How does one let her heart crumble into tiny seeds? I think, every time your heart is broken, it crumbles into tiny seeds. Every time you are attacked, abused, rejected, alienated, it crumbles into more seeds. Every time you lose someone you love or are separated from your loved ones, your heart crumbles a little more.

Eventually your heart becomes tenderized, stretched and expanded. You become empathetic and attuned to people in need everywhere you go. If planting love becomes a way of life, you are truly blessed.  As this spreads to others, our world becomes more beautiful. Just think, we could have a pandemic of love all over the world.   

Planting seeds of love everywhere you go is what Jesus meant when he said, “Love one another as I have loved you.” Jesus’ heart was pierced at the end and blood and water poured out his side. He held nothing back. 

We must do likewise. It’s the most important work we have to do.

Most of the news was about shootings, injustices, tragedies, and murders. I wanted to ignore the grief, to put it out of my mind.   But Richard Rohr, a Catholic author, says we need to feel the grief because it has a lot to teach us. It seems the writers of the Psalms knew this. Of the 150 psalms, a third are about grief.   The psalmists grieved being overcome by enemies, losing loved ones, leaving their land, suffering illness, and more.   Inspired by Scholastica     A Tree’s Lament The fierce winds blew whipping my branches, stripping my leaves. Then I felt a painful crack down my right side ripping open a limb, crippling my strength.   I feared the storm’s wildness raging on-- would it end my life on this peaceful green spot overlooking the graves of women long passed, with old majestic buildings looming behind me?   It holds so many memories of flowing robes and veils, women who devoted their lives to prayer and teaching and serving others.   Maybe my broken wound will heal and not be deadly.
